Breaking Barriers: Women Thriving in the Mining Industry

My name is Mary Somi. I work at AMOS as a truck operator. Despite having a degree in urban planning, I successfully transitioned into the mining industry. Over time, I have mastered operating heavy trucks, and I am eager to continue learning and handling other machinery.

I love my job. Although it was challenging at first, we have now adapted and operate efficiently.

Our work involves going underground, transporting loads, and bringing them to the surface. AMOS has created opportunities for women in roles that were once considered too demanding. Today, we have women operating trucks, excavation machines, and other heavy equipment. Others are engaged in meal preparation and charging operations. This proves that women are capable, hardworking, and eager to learn.

I appreciate AMOS for empowering women. In the past, these jobs were mostly reserved for men, but now, AMOS leadership is offering women the chance to grow and excel in this field.

To all women, keep pushing forward! As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let’s continue to break barriers. Everything is possible!
